The mucilage Glucomannan is obtained from the flour from the tubers of Konjac (Amorphophallus konjac K. Koch), a species that grows in lowland tropical and subtropical areas of Africa and Asia. The main component is a glucomannan called polysaccharide consisting of D-glucose and D-mannose. Glucomannan in contact with water swells to increase up to 100 times its volume forming a high viscosity gel.
