The texturized soy is sold as a dry product. Can be used as a substitute for ground beef or meat in casseroles, stews and pasta sauces. It is an excellent source of protein, iron, calcium, zinc and fiber. Their origin is the "soybean", from which oil is extracted and removed the skin. Once dry flour is compressed until its fibers change in structure and achieves a pleasant tasting product. Its high content of "phytoestrogens" prevents the associated symptoms of menopause and reduces the risk of some cancers. It helps control cholesterol levels, thus the incidence of cardiovascular disease may be reduced with soy consumption.
Is left to soak for a few hours or boiled in water or broth for 15 minutes.
